Chanteloube n‟est pas que ce joli vocable qui chante à l‟oreille et fleure bon son terroir. C‟est avant tout un état d‟esprit, presque une philosophie , qui a fédéré un groupe ouvert de
plasticiens.
De local, puis régional, ce groupe a pris une envergure internationale. Et si le mot évoque l‟image idyllique d‟un coin du Vercors, là-haut sur sa montagne, son influence a gagné la vallée,
pour rayonner de fait par delà les frontières : jusqu„en Catalogne, en Pologne, puis en Allemagne, en Lituanie et aussi en République Tchèque.
Les pieds et le cœur bien ancrés dans son territoire, Chanteloube, chaque année, honore dignement ses racines lors des Journées du Patrimoine. Puisant son imaginaire dans l‟histoire des gens,
des lieux et du paysage qui sont les siens, il interroge et convoque le passé.
Mais Chanteloube a aussi la tête ailleurs et maintenant, car cette structure se veut bien de son époque : elle projette, crée et réalise des événements artistiques dans le cadre d‟échanges
et de symposiums internationaux. Lors des résidences d‟artistes qui alternent entre France et pays étrangers partenaires, les pratiques artistiques s‟enrichissent mutuellement et toutes les
techniques y sont développées: peinture, sculpture, gravure, travail de la terre, installation et land art, photographie et vidéo.
Les ouvertures d‟ateliers et de demeures particulières au public le plus large possible, avec l‟intervention de jeunes groupes des « arts du vivant », participent d‟une volonté de ne pas
réserver l‟art contemporain à un petit nombre d‟initiés, en créant une atmosphère propice à une réception plus aisée.
Ces rendez-vous suivis, qui accueillent de plus en plus d‟artistes, étrangers ou non, connaissent un succès croissant, et encouragent Chanteloube à poursuivre cette voie étroite, entre
ici et là-bas la valorisation de son patrimoine et ses projets de promotion de l‟art contemporain.
Chanteloube or the Art of Paradox.
Chanteloube is not just a pretty word, which sings in the ear and smells like the countryside. It is, above all, a state of mind, almost a philosophy, which
brought together a large group of artists.
Firstly merely local, then later regional, this group has now become international. And even if its name calls up the idyllic image of the Vercors, high up in the mountains,
its influence has spread to the valley, and now beams far over the borders: to Catalonia, Poland, Germany, Lithuania and also the Czech Republic.
With its feet and heart heavily anchored in its own territory, Chanteloube honours its roots each year, with great dignity, during the National Heritage open days. Taking its
inspiration from the history of its own people and landscapes, it summons up the past.
But the head of Chanteloube is also elsewhere and in the present time, since this structure lives in its own time too: it plans, creates and carries out international art
events, in the context of exchanges and conferences. During the various artistic symposiums occurring here in France and in partner countries, artistic practice is enriched. All sorts of
artistic expressions are to be found there: painting, sculpture, clay work, engraving, land art, installation, photography and video.
Opening studios and private houses to as varied a public as possible, with the participation of young groups of „living art”, is part of the desire not to restrict
contemporary art to a small elite.These regular gatherings, to which come more and more artists, both French and from abroad, are received with increasing success and encourage
Chanteloube to continue with the enhancement of its heritage and its projects to promote contemporary art.
La galerie Dubiut de Gdynia -Pologne- accueille le projet
« Couleur Charbon » du 19 mai au 9 juin 2011.
Initialement proposé en 2007 dans 9 lieux d’exposition du
Vercors avec des artistes de 6 nationalités différentes,
« Couleur charbon » a été exposé au Musée du Patrimoine
de Villard de Lans (Isère) en 2009.
A chaque étape, le projet évolue, s’enrichit de réflexions, de
regards nouveaux sur cette histoire du Vercors.
Le projet s'est organisé autour du thème «Couleur
Charbon» afin de révéler une part méconnue de l'histoire de
la région alpine: la fabrication du charbon de bois.
Jusqu‟à la seconde guerre mondiale et même plus tardivement , des
charbonniers -venus aussi d‟Italie- s‟installaient dans les forêts
alpestres pendant la moitié de l‟année, seuls ou en famille. Leur
activité consistait à rassembler du bois qu‟ils brûlaient selon une
méthode spécifique: ils construisaient des sortes de huttes, faites de
morceaux de bois empilés, recouverts de terre, qui devaient se
consumer très lentement autour d‟une cheminée centrale. Le processus
réclamait une surveillance particulière pendant plusieurs jours. Une
fois transporté dans la vallée, le charbon de bois servait de combustible
aux industries locales. Ce procédé de production, avec quelques
variantes, se retrouve encore à travers le monde entier.
Le thème de l'exposition implique de ne pas oublier l'aventure
humaine, celle de ces charbonniers, sortes d'ermites en marge de la
société. Et leur univers de bois, de feu, de combustion, a fait jaillir des
images, des émotions que les artistes ont traduites selon leur sensibilité
propre.
« Couleur charbon » raconte plusieurs histoires en une seule : une histoire humaine, l'histoire d'une fabrication, « l'histoire d'une énergie » .
Dubiut Gallery in Gdynia -Poland- presents the exhibition “Couleur Charbon” from 19th of may to 9 th of june 2011 . This event was first presented in 2007 with 9 simultaneous exhibitions in Vercors bringing together 40 artists from 6 countries. It was then shown in 2009 at the Patrimony Museum in Villard de Lans (Vercors).
Each new phase makes this project richer from mixing reflections and outlooks on the history of this area of the French Alps and the history of charcoal making.
The topic of this exhibition reveals elements of unknown history of our region in the Alps: the making of charcoal..
Until the second World War and even later, coalburners settled half of the year in the forest in the mountains, with or without their families. They collected wood from the forest and burnt it using a specific technique. The wood was stacked in the shape of a hut around a central chimney, and then covered in soil. It was burnt very slowly over a number of days under close supervision to ensure it turned charcoal, which was used as a source of energy in the valleys.
This universal process, fusion of fire and wood, has always questioned artists in different ways, as did the way of life of coalburners who used to live apart from the society, like ermits..
It is a human story , but it is the story of a process too; the story of an energy.
Depuis 2002, Chanteloube initie des projets en organisant expositions et symposiums en France et à l‟étranger. Pour chaque projet proposé, le groupe invite des
artistes et travaille sur des thèmes spécifiques en lien avec l‟histoire, l‟environnement et les activités locales.
